Celebrating 2019 Refugee Week in Cobram

Refugee Week is Sunday June 16 to Saturday June 22, 2019. The theme for Refugee Week 2019 is A World of Stories. Come and enjoy the screening of Thon Thon’s Journey from Sudan and floor talk by Shepparton’s Ethnic Council’s Community Development Officer on Tuesday, 18 June.

Refugee Week provides an opportunity for everyone to celebrate the immense courage, resilience and valuable contributions made by refugees to Australian society. For many Australians, Refugee Week provides an opportunity to meet a refugee for the first time. Storytelling provides a great way to do this.

Why Refugee Week?

In a world where violence forces thousands of families to flee for their lives each day, the time is now to show that the global public stands with refugees.

To do this, the UN Refugee Agency launched the #WithRefugees petition in June 2016 to send a message to governments that they must work together and do their fair share for refugees.

On World Refugee Day, held every year on June 20th, we commemorate the strength, courage and perseverance of millions of refugees. This year, World Refugee Day also marks a key moment for the public to show support for families forced to flee.

The Refugee Week Theme for 2019 is ‘A World of Stories’ from around the Globe!

Come and enjoy the screening of Thon Thon’s Journey from Sudan and floor talk by Shepparton’s Ethnic Council’s Community Development Officer.
