“It is important to build social inclusion in this region” said Ethnic Council diversity officer Abdullah Naveed. Childhood is a special time and providing the opportunity for children to play on the swings and slides and jump all over the pipes and letter boxes and ride the train is a special thing for children at holiday time, Mr Naveed told.

Social capital – the many links an individual or an institution has in a community is built by a sense of belonging, networks, bonding and bridging, feelings of trust and safety, participation, diversity, similar values, norms and outlooks in life, reciprocity and citizenship, to name a few of the elements of social capital. Events like School Holidays at Kidstown for settlement and new arrivals in Shepparton build friendliness, connections between groups and strengthen the sense of harmony and belonging.
