Self Advocacy Tools

People with a disability from culturally and linguistically diverse communities will get the tools they need to advocate for themselves in Shepparton this month.

A Self Advocacy Feast will be on at the Shepparton Masonic Centre and event organiser Janet Curtain said the event was a chance for people with a disability from different cultures to talk about self advocacy.

“This is a project we’re doing with the Self Advocacy Resource Unit in Melbourne,” she said.

With the assistance of The Ethnic Council of Shepparton, the event will provide guests with the tools to self-advocate.

“Self advocacy is all about speaking up and speaking up for your rights,” Ms Curtain said.

“And it’s about choosing the way you want to live your life, and self-determination.”

The Self-Advocacy Feast will be on Wednesday, October 10 from 5.30 pm to 8.30 pm at the Shepparton Masonic Centre, 161 Welsford St, Shepparton. Bookings are essential to Janet, phone 0418 114 558 or email janetcurtain@hotmail.com Let her know of any dietary requirements or if you need an interpreter.
