All aboard the culture bus

Following the success of last year’s inaugural culture bus tour, Shepparton people have another chance to visit the city’s important multicultural sites.

The Ethnic Council of Shepparton and District’s free multicultural bus tour starts tomorrow morning and will once again visit places of cultural significance including Rumbalara Medical Clinic and the Turkish mosque in Mooroopna, Rumbalara Football-Netball Club and the Iraqi mosque in Shepparton’s north and the Sikh temple on Doyles Rd.

Visitors will be met by guides who will discuss the significance of each site.

The tour is supported by the Department of Justice.

Ethnic Council manager Chris Hazelman said it was a great chance for people from the mainstream Shepparton community to experience the different cultures of their city.

‘People will gain a better understanding of the cultures that surround them, and see many places they wouldn’t normally get a chance to see,’ Mr Hazelman said.

‘We really acknowledge the generosity of our ethnic communities in opening their doors to us.’

Tomorrow’s bus ride will start at 9.45 am from the Ethnic Council offices in Welsford St and will finish about 5 pm. Lunch will be provided by Shepparton’s Afghan community.
