World Rivers Day
World Rivers Day is a celebration of the world’s waterways. It highlights the many values of our rivers, strives to increase public awareness, and encourages the improved stewardship of all rivers around the world. Rivers in virtually every country face an array of threats, and only through our active involvement can we ensure their health in the years ahead. Shepparton will hold its first ever River Run Race on World Rivers Day!
Thunderstorm asthma season
As we head into grass pollen season, which runs from October to December, people are at increased risk of hay fever and asthma. There is also a higher risk of thunderstorm asthma, which causes a large number of people to develop asthma symptoms over a short period of time. It is important to protect yourself this pollen season. The Department of Health has translated resources available, including posters, social media content and brochures in 28 languages
Insurance Council of Australia at Mooroopna
The Insurance Council of Australia will be in attendance at the Sir Ian McLennan Centre, Mooroopna, on afternoon of Wednesday, 20 September from 1pm – 6pm. Representatives from the Insurance Council will be available to provide assistance to those involved in last year’s floods and are seeking insurance advice and guidance.
Riverlinks: A Migrant’s Son
Many have settled in Shepparton and the Goulburn Valley region and by dint of hard work, have successfully made a home here. They have their stories to tell. Riverlinks Eastbank presents a musical entitled A Migrant’s Son which will be presented at Eastbank on Saturday, 16 September. This brings memories of a story that millions of Australians can relate to.
Multicultural Fashion Show
The 2023 St Georges Road Food Festival will include a Multicultural Fashion Show. The Fashion Show – curated by the Goulburn Valley Seniors Association Inc. – is for women aged 60 and above – wearing traditional dress. The Greater Shepparton St Georges Road Food Festival will be held on Saturday, 7 October, 2023.

The Greater Shepparton Nepalese Community presents the Shepparton Teej Festival in the Function Hall, GV Hotel, on evening of 14 September 2023. All are welcome.
Services Australia Updates
The How to create a myGov account video is now available on YouTube. It provides step by step instructions on how to create a myGov account using an email address. It’s available in 11 languages: Arabic, Assyrian, Cantonese, Chaldean, Dari, Hazaragi, Korean, Mandarin, Persian (Farsi), Turkish and Vietnamese. An update is also provided on Child Care Subsidy. (CCS) This is also available in 11 languages.
Multicultural Framework Review
The Multicultural Framework Review (the Review) is looking at ways for government and the community to work together to support a cohesive multicultural society and advance a vibrant and prosperous future for all Australians. Submissions are open until 29 September 2023. Information is available in 35 languages.
Early Years Recruitment Day
Greater Shepparton Council is looking for workers to work with children in their Early Years section. Information is given in Dari, Hazaragi, Punjabi and Swahili.
