Inquiry into support for older Victorians from migrant and refugee backgrounds

A parliamentary committee has recommended the initiative after an inquiry found older people from migrant and refugee backgrounds are often unaware of the services available to them.

The Legislative Assembly Legal and Social Issues Committee has made 76 recommendations to government, including more funding for the provision of essential services and an expansion of translated material into a broader range of languages.

Care finders or community connectors could be employed across the state to help culturally diverse seniors find and access support close to where they live.

Now in its third year, the Blue Nile African Australian Business Masterclass Program is a heavily subsidised program designed for African Australian entrepreneurs, not-for-profit and corporate leaders.

The program has been developed by the University of Melbourne in collaboration with the African Australian community to respond to the specific challenges faced by African Australian entrepreneurs in the Australian business landscape.

Participants engage with entrepreneurs, world-class staff executives, managers and community leaders, who will share tools for growing businesses and developing economic opportunities for the community at large. Applications are open until Sunday 14 August.
