In its Policy Platform 2022, the Federation of Communities’ Councils of Australia (FECCA) has called for the establishment of an Office for Multicultural Australia to lead a coordinated whole-of-government approach to multicultural policy. Whoever wins and forms the next Australian government, we look forward to working with our members to advocate for our diverse communities.

 Recognising and Respecting Carers

Ethnic Communities’ Council of Victoria (ECCV) has partnered with Carers Victoria to improve outcomes for carers from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds. 

Funded through the Department of Families, Fairness and Housing (DFFH), the Recognising and Respecting Carers from Cultural and Linguistically Diverse Backgrounds project seeks to address priorities set out by the Victorian Government in the Victorian Carer Strategy 2018-22.

Women Leading Locally

Women Leading Locally

The Women Leading Locally program aims to increase the representation of women councillors and mayors in Victoria by supporting 120 women from 30 target municipalities through two Community Leadership and Local Governance fellowships. Women from CALD and muliticultural communities will be supported and encouraged to apply.

The program welcomes the involvement of women from all ages and backgrounds – Young Women, First Nations women, women who live with disability, women from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds and LGBTQI+ women are especially encouraged to apply. The key requirement is that you have a passion for your local community.

Ethnolink launches multicultural communications training

Ethnolink launches multicultural communications training

In an Australian-first, leading multicultural communications agency, Ethnolink, has launched Ethnolink Education, an online multicultural communications training platform for communications and community-sector professionals, made available entirely for free.

At launch, Ethnolink Education includes 14 hours of on-demand video training, on topics relevant to communicating with Australia’s Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) communities including writing for translation, website translation, community engagement, video translation, and multilingual government communications.

Rental Rights – Multicultural Forum, Rental Language Guides

Tenants VictoriaTenants Victoria will hold a Multicultural Forum to advise on rental rights. They have partnered with Victorian Multicultural Commission to provide language guides for renters written in Arabic, Simplified Chinese and Dari/Farsi for people from multicultural communities in need of more accessible tenancy information in widely spoken community languages.
