Latifa Haidary was working as a security guard at a regional Victorian COVID-19 vaccination hub when an elderly Afghan man walked in. Approaching staff members with a bewildered look on his face, he began asking a stream of questions in Hazaragi. But no-one could understand him until Ms Haidary, 22, stepped in and addressed him in the language. “I said, ‘Sir, do you know if you can fill in a form or not?'” Ms Haidary said.

The course is centred around a study of the questions contained in the test. The course is free and commences on Thursday 20 May 2021. This is an English Medium course. Interpreters will be in attendance.
A new roundtable is set to meet to tackle the broader trends of racism and lack of social inclusion across Shepparton. Representatives from various cultural and Aboriginal communities, the Victorian Multicultural Commission, government departments and agencies, Greater Shepparton City Council and Greater Shepparton Secondary College will form a roundtable to meet later this month.

A Shepparton family violence prevention worker says she has helped more victim survivors this year than any other. The Crime Statistics Agency says there have been 1,611 family violence incidents in the Greater Shepparton region in the year ending June 2020.
The Embrace Multicultural Mental Health project aims to make mental health services accessible for people from diverse backgrounds in Australia. The key objectives of the project are to increase participation of consumers and carers from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds in mental health services and to improve outcomes for CALD mental health consumers, carers, and their families. There is a drive to increase mental health awareness, knowledge, and capacity in CALD communities and also improve cultural responsiveness and diversity of the mental health workforce. Ethnic Council of Shepparton and District was one of two organisations consulted.
