Vale Dr. Apollo Nsubuga-Kyobe – Ethnic Council of Shepparton and District

The Ethnic Council of Shepparton and District notes the passing of Dr. Apollo Nsubuga-Kyobe, Vice President and long-standing board member of the Ethnic Council. Dr Apollo was a pioneer in the African Victorian community for over three decades. He tirelessly supported the settlement of new and emerging communities across metropolitan and regional Victoria and empowered African Victorians of all cultures, backgrounds and generations.

Dr. Apollo Nsubuga-Kyobe was a highly respected and passionate advocate, academic and leader of Victoria’s African-Australian community.

Apollo’s outstanding and tireless service to the African community and legacy extends across Victoria and beyond.

Over the past 35 years, he founded and led several African community organisations including the Ugandan Association of Victoria, Africa Day Australia, Goulburn Valley Ethnic Professionals Association and the African Think Tank Inc.

Apollo served on the Board of Ethnic Communities Council of Victoria between 2007 and 2015 and was an active member of ECCV’s Positive Ageing & Aged Care Policy Advisory Committee and our New and Emerging Communities Policy Advisory.

Through his advocacy, Dr Apollo strengthened relationships between government and grass-root communities. He was a valued member of the Victorian Multicultural Council’s Regional Advisory Council, contributing his time, efforts and invaluable insights to the Hume and North West Metropolitan councils.

Dr Apollo will be remembered as an accomplished and respected leader in the many roles he held to serve his community, and Victoria. He was vice-president and a long-standing member of the Ethnic Council of Shepparton and District.

Our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and members of our African communities. He will be greatly missed.
