Mama Africa: Mother’s Day Celebration in Shepparton
The Goulburn Valley South Sudanese Community Association will celebrate Mother’s Day on Saturday 1st June at the Senior Citizens Hall, 132 Welsford St, Shepparton from 6pm-9pm.
Home Affairs Portfolio expanded to include Migrant Adult Education and Refugee Resettlement Services
Refugee advocates say a “cultural shift” is needed within the Home Affairs department to handle the extra responsibility of delivering refugee resettlement services. The mega department is set to grow further, taking back control of settlement services and adult migrant education which had been managed by the Social Services and Education departments since 2013.
Celebrating the Filipino Community
Greater Shepparton’s Filipino community will take over Maude St Mall on Saturday for the latest Culture Corner showcase. Filipino community members will share traditional clothing, music, food and drinks, including the much-loved bihon noodles and spring rolls, as part of a Greater Shepparton City Council multicultural initiative to highlight the city’s cultural diversity.

Travel warning for refugees with pending citizenship or visa applications
The Refugee Council of Australia is increasingly hearing of refugees who have had their Protection visa cancelled while overseas. Often, this has occurred after they have lodged a citizenship or visa application, a further visa application, or been included as a sponsor to a third person’s visa application.

The Ethnic Council of Shepparton and District is offering a free course for anyone seeking Australian Citizenship. The course is centred around a study of the questions contained in the test. The course is free and commences on 17 July 2019.
CALD Aged Care Diversity Framework Action Plan
The Aged Care Diversity Framework Action Plans will act as a guiding resource that will assist government and aged care service providers to address specific barriers and challenges faced by older people with diverse characteristics and life experiences. In addition, action plans have been developed for consumers. FECCA is advocating with the Department of Health for the CALD Consumer Action Plan to be translated into a range of languages.
