ECCV visit to Shepparton – Ethnic Council of Shepparton and District

Board and Staff of The Ethnic Council of Shepparton and District assembled to meet and hear from staff of the Ethnic Communities Council of Victoria – which advocates and lobbies all levels of government on behalf of multicultural communities in areas, metropolitan and regional Victoria.

Ethnic Communities Council of Victoria CEO Chris Christoforou and ECCV Project Officer Nikolaus Rittinghausen visited with the Ethnic Council of Shepparton and District to meet with Board Members and Staff on Wednesday 29th May to learn about multicultural communities in the Goulburn Valley.

The meeting proceeded informally over lunch and Ethnic Communities Council of Victoria CEO Chris Christoforou heard from staff and board members. All present contributed to the iterations and the issue of ECCV obtaining reports and inputs from regional Ethnic Councils was advocated. ECCV staff present were keen to hear about local issues and also meet with leaders from the Italian, Greek, Albanian and Macedonian communities to discuss access to services for older community members.

	The Ethnic Council of Shepparton and District acknowledges the Yorta Yorta People of the land which comprises the Goulburn Valley. We pay respect to tribal Elders, past, present and emerging and we celebrate their continuing culture and acknowledge the memory of their ancestors.
	The Ethnic Council of Shepparton and District is a peak body whose mission is to promote and represent the social, cultural and economic well-being of ethnic communities in the Goulburn Valley Region through the provision of quality and innovative settlement, refugee support, community development, and information and advocacy services.
