Fairley Youth Community Leadership ProgramGoulburn Murray Community Leadership in partnership with City of Greater Shepparton announce a Community Youth Leadership Program. Applications are invited for youth aged 18-25, and a number of community groups may nominate youth for participation. Applications close February 26, 2023.


FAIRLEY YOUTH COMMUNITY LEADERSHIP PROGRAM
EMPOWERING YOUNG LEADERS

The purpose of the Fairley Youth Community Leadership Program is to empower young leaders and encourage them to explore and develop their leadership skills.

After participating in a co-design process to inform program delivery, it is envisaged participants of the 4-month program will be involved in a range of exciting life, civic and community experiences, providing them the platform to connect, contribute and grow as a leader in their community.

Young leaders will participate in sessions introducing them to a range of environments to meet inspirational leaders and develop their leadership skill set.

The program aims for emerging young leaders to:

  • Focus on topics and objectives that align with their priorities for the region
  • Build their capacity as emerging leaders of our community
  • Connect with and learn from existing community leaders
  • Learnt the art of advocacy
  • Increase their exposure to key community challenges and opportunities in the region

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

The program will include approximately 10 sessions and run over the months of March, April, May & June 2023

  • Co-design process occurring early March
  • Program sessions will occur in venues/facilities across the Greater Shepparton area
  • Program aims to include a combination of face to face, online and immersives to gain access to local leaders, policy developers and change makers.
  • A safe environment for young people to development themselves as community leaders and to meet other young leaders
  • Opportunity to explore the major issues
  • Opportunity to contribute and link into local communities

HOW TO NOMINATE / APPLY

To nominate an emerging young leader or self-nominate, the young person needs to email all relevant criteria below to info@gmcl.org.au:

1. We would like to know more about you and why you’re interested in the program AND we want you to deliver it in a way that best represents you. For example, this could be delivered through:

  • A video (up to 90 seconds)
  • A written response (approximately 300 words)
  • Artwork
  • A poem
  • Even a song

2. We would like an insight into, ‘What community leadership means to you?‘ Again, you have the choice to present this in whatever way you would like (see above examples)

3. A resume (optional)

Nominations close Sunday 26th of February 2023.

ELIGIBILITY

Who can take the journey? Nominees need to:

  • Between 18-25 years old during the period Jan-June 2023
  • Be from the Greater Shepparton Local Government Area. Click here for list of towns eligible
  • Demonstrate an interest in contributing to the community and learning how to create positive change in the community
  • People from Aboriginal and ethnically diverse communities are encouraged to apply

WHO CAN NOMINATE A YOUNG LEADER

  • Support organisations including staff working directly with young people
  • Community and sporting groups including Presidents, coaches, coordinators, etc
  • Education including Principals, career advisors, well being staff, year level coordinators , etc
  • Council including staff working directly with young people
  • Self nomination young people who are eligible to participate
