Cultural Bus Tour

Shepparton Ethnic Council and District welcomes staff members of the Goulburn Valley Water who will participate in a day of discovery of Shepparton’s unique Multicultural communities.

The tour commences at the Flats between Mooroopna and Shepparton. Rumbalara Aboriginal Elder Robyn Nelson will guide the visitors through some of the local indigenous history, including the walk-off from Cummeragunja in 1939.

The Bus tour will also go to the Turkish Mosque, where the imam and members of Shepparton’s Turkish Community explains the features of the mosque and elements of the muslim worship service and the Holy Koran. The Cultural Bus Tour will also visit the Afghan Mosque, Iraqi Mosque and the Gurdwara Sahib (Sikh temple).

As we will visiting places of various cultures and religions, cultural sensitivity needs to be acknowledged. As part the Muslim and Sikh traditions removal of shoes is required and the covering of hair before you enter their places of worship. A scarf can be used to cover your hair and socks may be needed when shoe removal is required.
