Updated: Information for seasonal workers

ploughingThe Department of Health and Human Services provides updated information for seasonal workers. Earlier information told that workers have to get tested before commencing seasonal work. A change in public health advice means that workers are no longer need to get tested before they start work based on recent public health advice.


Before starting seasonal work

If you have any symptoms of coronavirus (COVID-19), however mild, you must get tested before you start seasonal work.

If you do not have symptoms of coronavirus (COVID-19), you do not need to get tested before starting.

To stay safe at work you should:

  • stay in your assigned work group (‘bubble’)
  • always wear your face mask if working indoors
  • wear your mask outdoors if you can’t stay 1.5 metres away from others
  • wash your hands regularly
  • do not come to work if you feel sick
  • get tested immediately if you have any symptoms of coronavirus (COVID-19), even if they are very mild.

Coronavirus (COVID-19) symptoms are fever, chills or sweats, cough, sore throat, shortness of breath, runny nose and loss or change in sense of smell or taste.

getting testedIf you have symptoms, get tested and stay home until you get your test results.
You can go back to work once you get a negative test result.
The test is free for everyone. This includes people without a Medicare card, such as visitors from overseas, migrant workers and asylum seekers.
We will not ask you about your visa status. We only want to find out if you have coronavirus (COVID-19) so we can help keep you and our community safe.
If you do not have any symptoms, you currently do not need to be tested before starting work.

To stay safe at home and on your way to work you should:

** Maintain a physical distance of 1.5 metres from others at home and clean communal surfaces regularly.
** Wear a mask and maintain a physical distance of 1.5 metres from others whilst travelling to work.

If you have coronavirus (COVID-19) symptoms:

  • do not come to work
  • tell your employer
  • get tested immediately at your nearest testing site
  • stay at home (isolate) until you get your test results.
