Intercultural Young Advocacy Leadership (IYAL) Group

Ensuring the voices of young advocates have a platform for being heard and for participating in the improvement of public policy for future generations of culturally diverse community groups.

The Ethnic Community Council of Victoria Intercultural Young Advocacy Leaders (IYAL) program is a pathway for young people from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds to develop advocacy, governance and leadership experience.

Ethnic Community Council of Victoria ran a successful pilot of the IYAL program in 2018-19, bringing together a diverse group of next-generation leaders who added another important voice for multicultural Victoria. During the four-month pilot, the young advocacy leaders received awareness raising sessions to enhance their knowledge and skills of governance and leadership in our culturally diverse community.

The IYAL program was launched on 23 May 2018 at Parliament House.

IYAL is a sub-committee of the ECCV Board which helps connect ECCV with CALD young people across Victoria, while developing future leadership pathways within and between ECCV members. It is made up of 12 young people aged 21 to 30 from CALD backgrounds, selected for two years.

As young people face mounting challenges and uncertainty due to COVID-19, the Ethnic Community Council of Victoria is working with relevant stakeholders to redevelop and relaunch the IYAL program to address the current challenges and harness new opportunities to support and empower young people from CALD communities.

We are currently recruiting young leaders for the program. Applications close 19 April 2021. Download a Flyer for this program
