The Ethnic Communities Council of Victoria (ECCV) is working with Victorian Council of Social Service (VCOSS) and the Department of Health (DH) on an Emergency Management Project to support emergency preparedness and resilience among migrant and refugee communities. This includes preparing for emergencies such as future COVID-19 outbreaks, other future pandemics, bushfires, storms, heatwaves and floods.
The Project involves:
- Developing stronger relationships and partnerships between Emergency Services and migrant and refugee communities
- Developing and delivering training for migrant and refugee communities to build emergency preparedness and resilience.
Emergency Management Multicultural Advisory Committee will provide advice, expertise and support to the project. Committee Members will be from migrant and refugee backgrounds and have strong networks within at least one migrant or refugee community. People from a diverse range of ages, cultures, abilities, genders, sexualities and experiences are actively encouraged to apply.
Meetings will be held Wednesday evenings, 7pm-8.30pm, starting Wednesday 11 August. Meetings will be initially held weekly and will then move to fortnightly or monthly, depending on need. Outside of meetings, some reading of materials will be required (e.g. proposed training materials), and some phone calls or additional consultation may be required.
Committee Members will be given an $80 gift voucher (Visa gift card or Coles/Myer gift card) per Advisory Committee Meeting in acknowledgement of their time and expertise.
