'My Body. My Health.' A health education toolkit‘My Body. My Health.’ is a series of educational presentations to help organisations deliver health information to women from migrant and refugee backgrounds. ‘My body. My health. education toolkit’ migrant and refugee women’s health information needs has been translated. The selected languages are: Arabic, Burmese, Chinese Simplified, Dari, Hindi, Nuer, Swahili, and Thai languages.


The toolkit is written in plain English and guided by health literacy principles, making it practical and easy to understand and use. It is specifically designed for women who need clear information about the Australian healthcare system to make informed decisions about their health. The presentations can be delivered by health professionals, educators, social workers or community leaders. They encourage conversations with women about good health.

The presentations were developed with the Centre for Culture, Ethnicity and Health, and involved consultation and collaboration with service providers, clinicians, women from migrant and refugee communities, and multicultural health organisations.

Each PowerPoint presentation is available now to download in plain English, and in Arabic, Burmese, Simplified Chinese, Dari, Farsi, Hindi, Karen, Nuer, Somali, Swahili, Tamil, Thai and Tibetan.

Topic 1 – Health checks

What are health checks, when do you need to have them, and how to make an appointment to see a doctor.

Topic 2 – Good food for good health

What is a healthy diet, what are the 5 food groups, why is calcium important, and how to prepare healthy school lunches for children.

Topic 3 – Move more. Sit less

What is physical activity and why is it important, what are the physical activity guidelines and recommendations, and how can you move more during your day.

Topic 4 – Feeling good. How to feel more positive in life

What are the different types of feelings, how can they affect how you feel and impact your life, and what can help you when you feel bad.

Topic 5 – The importance of vitamin D

Why is vitamin D important, and how can you get enough vitamin D.

Topic 6 – Menopause and your health. Stay healthy during and after menopause

What is menopause, when and why does it happen, what are the symptoms of menopause and how can you manage them, and how to take care of your health during and after menopause.

Topic 7 – Sexual health and healthy relationships

What is sexual health, why is consent important, what are the different types of contraception, how to manage an unplanned pregnancy, and what is reproductive coercion.
