Farm and Orchard Work: Vaccinations needed

Money really does grow on trees’ here in the Goulburn Valley. The Fruit and Vegetable harvesting jobs are here and yours for the picking.

It’s hands on healthy work, that’s stress free, keeps you fit and delivers you a ‘healthy pay packet’. There’s a real romance to working outdoors in orchard fresh country air, all bathed in glorious Goulburn Valley sunshine.

It’s like a paid working holiday, you’ll make new friends and experience wonderful adventures. There is a requirement: Everyone working on farms and orchards needs to be double-vaccinated. Vaccination is a requirement for working on farms.

Registrations now open for Pick GV

The Goulburn Valley seasonal worker campaign Pick GV is open for registrations for the 2021-22 picking season. The program provides training and support to retain employment past the summer picking season.

During the second year of the COVID-19 pandemic, over 20,200 young people aged 15 – 19 years have shared their greatest concerns in Mission Australia’s 20th annual Youth Survey. The Youth Survey Report 2021 provides rich and compelling insights about young people’s challenges, concerns, experiences and barriers to achieving their goals. Here are the three most important issues facing young Australians today and Mission Australia’s response:

Islamic Religiosity and Mental Wellbeing Research Project

The Australian National University is undertaking research to investigate the impact that religiosity and identity has on mental wellbeing following drug use. Where possible, multiple religions will be compared to determine any major differences, however the main focus will be on the Islamic faith. Interested persons are invited to participate in the Survey.

Multicultural Youth and the Family Violence System

Centre for Multicultural Youth is holding an online forum to develop a deeper understanding of the experience of family violence in young multicultural people. This is a forum to explore gaps and opportunities when providing services to multicultural young people experiencing family violence. This forum will be online on the morning of Thursday, 9 December 2021.

Australia has become a ‘guest worker state’ exploiting temporary visa holders

The growth of temporary migration visas since the 1990s has turned Australia into a “guest worker state” creating an underclass of young, vulnerable and often exploited employees, a new report suggests.

The Migrant Workers Centre’s Lives in Limbo report found 65% of temporary visa holders had experienced wage theft.

Based on interviews with 700 temporary visa holders in Australia, the report – released this week – found a clear link between workplace exploitation and temporary visa status, with 91% of workers who experienced wage theft arriving on a visa with no pathway to permanent residency.

Goulburn Valley Afghan community waits anxiously for humanitarian action

Day and night news of the escalating atrocities committed by the Taliban in Afghanistan fills Goulburn Valley Afghan community members with dread, as they search desperately and, mostly fruitlessly, for ways to help loved ones trapped within the landlocked country’s borders.

Chris Hazelman, Manager of the Ethnic Council of Shepparton and District Inc., gives one Annual Report for year 2021 on 30 November 2021. The report provides a comprehensive overview of the Ethnic Council’s activities for the year 2021, and response to Covid-19 along with allocation of staff to the Vaccination Centre.

	The Ethnic Council of Shepparton and District acknowledges the Yorta Yorta People of the land which comprises the Goulburn Valley. We pay respect to tribal Elders, past, present and emerging and we celebrate their continuing culture and acknowledge the memory of their ancestors.
	The Ethnic Council of Shepparton and District is a peak body whose mission is to promote and represent the social, cultural and economic well-being of ethnic communities in the Goulburn Valley Region through the provision of quality and innovative settlement, refugee support, community development, and information and advocacy services.
