2022 Victorian Floods Recovery Support Program – for CALD Community

Windermere community organisation logo Windermere is a community support organisation which has capacity to provide in-language support for several languages. This is a joint-funded program of support for those involved in the 2022 Flood disaster in Shepparton and surrounds. This support is free and available to multicultural community, and those who have recently arrived in Australia and experienced floods. The support includes financial support, replacing lost items, insurance advocacy, business support and referrals for mental health support. This service is offered as a one-to-one service in Shepparton.


2022 Victorian Floods Recovery Support Program

Have you experienced property damage, trauma or loss as a result of the 2022 Victorian floods?

The Recovery Support Program can provide support for people who have been affected by the 2022 Victorian flood events.

Recovery support caseworkers will work with you to help you navigate the various support services that may be available to you as a result of flood damage. Support provided by caseworkers may include the following:

  • An initial brief chat about your needs and what next steps might be appropriate.
  • Information on how to access local services for additional support.
  • Advocacy for priority access if required for your circumstances.
  • Assistance with completing applications and paperwork required for a grant or financial claim processes with other organisations and government.
  • Tailored support, including outreach face to face visits by our staff or with other services if this is helpful to your situation.

The case support service may be able to provide you with a small amount of brokerage support to respond to immediate financial needs.

Flood Recovery Case Support staff will be able to direct and connect you to application processes for more comprehensive grants and other financial support processes.

Who’s it for

Community members living in any region impacted by the 2022 Victorian flood events. In some local Government areas, Windermere will provide initial information and support and link community members to a local organisation that will journey with them during their recovery journey.

We are currently working with councils and community groups to reach out to those who may have been affected by the floods but we also encourage you to contact us directly if you need support.

This service is for community members who have experienced one of the following as a result of the Victorian floods in 2022:

  • loss of your home
  • significant mental trauma
  • physical trauma
  • a loss of livelihood due to business loss.

If the above does not describe your situation, Windermere workers will consider each case on its merits.

Cost

No charge. This program is funded by the Commonwealth-State Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA) & the Victorian Government.

Criteria

A recovery support worker will conduct an initial screening to determine your current situation and eligibility.
