This portal includes the ability to generate a property report which will also indicate the depth of flooding on the property and in relation to the floor level (if known). The property report provides this information for both design flood events, as well as at various river gauge levels. The CMA has encouraged numerous members of the community to provide a copy of this report to their respective insurers when questioning why they have incurred a significant increase in premiums.
The Greater Shepparton City Council has secured significant funding through the DRF to undertake a floor level survey across the vast majority of flood affected houses in the Shepparton/Mooroopna/Kialla areas and this information will be included in the portal.
DEECA provides a set of flood study layers including state-wide 1% AEP flood extents to the Insurance Council of Australia (ICA) annually. Each regional 1% AEP flood extent is publicly available on the Digital Twin Victoria platform in the ‘Flood Mapping’ folder.
Individuals can apply to the Catchment Management Authority for flood advice which will assess the flood risk on their property, including information, where available, on other (smaller and larger) flood events and other parameters such as flood depth and velocity. This flood advice report can be provider to the individual’s insurer. Digital flood mapping over larger areas can also be sought from the Catchment Management Authority.
