Refugee Olympic Team – Ethnic Council of Shepparton and District

UN Refugee Chief Filippo Grandi is in Japan for the #Tokyo2020 Olympic Games. “I came here to cheer for the #RefugeeOlympicTeam – athletes who embody the hopes and aspirations of more than 80 million people around the world uprooted by war, violence, discrimination and persecution.”

Whether playing in a park or sprinting in a stadium – sport changes lives.

We want all refugees to have better access to sporting opportunities. Sport is not only fun. It helps refugees, to heal and to rebuild their lives.
Refugees are more than ‘one word’. More than ‘one story’. They are athletes, basketball players, martial artists, sprinters, footballers. Coaches and captains. They are team players.

UNHCR calls for all refugees to have access to sport and opportunity to fulfil their dreams, on and off the field.
