Here are two important new learning tools to help community workers stay safe during the COVID-19 pandemic.
COVIDSafe for Community Workers and PPE for Community Workers are two eLearning programs providing practical, up-to-date advice for workers in an engaging and effective way.
They are presented by a community worker – and the COVIDSafe eLearn also features a client as a presenter. The eLearns feature short video clips – presenting information and demonstrating how to do things safely. There are also many types of interactive activities to promote learning and keep learners engaged.
The COVIDSafe eLearn covers the basic things that workers must do to stay safe in community care. The eLearn covers:
- What is coronavirus or COVID-19?
- The importance of maintaining good hygiene through hand washing
- Correct respiratory hygiene
- COVID symptoms and the importance of testing
- Maintaining physical distancing at work
- And an introduction to personal protective equipment or PPE
The PPE eLearn shows you how to safely wear and remove PPE in a community care setting. It also covers the basic behaviours for staying safe from coronavirus at work.
Importantly, it clearly demonstrates:
- Safely putting on and taking off masks
- And how to safely put on and take off a full set of PPE – a gown, mask, eye protection and gloves
As well as the interactive activities, each eLearn has a final knowledge check which refreshes the main points.
The eLearns can be accesses on a dedicated learning management system available at health.evelearningex.com. This is free to use. It involves a simple registration, and confirmation by email, and then, a simple interface allows access to the courses. When each course is completed, learners can download a certificate of completion. The two courses are also available for download onto an organisation’s learning management system. The SCORM course files can be downloaded from a shared file link. Again, this is free. One final benefit is that the course can be completed on mobile phones.
We hope that support workers will use the information in these products to keep their clients and themselves COVIDSafe. These courses have been developed by the Victorian Government Department of Health and Human Services by Eve Learning with the support of Anglicare Victoria.
