The Women’s Collective invites you to celebrate the International Day for Rural Women at the UniMelb School of Rural Health on evening of 13 October. The International Day for Rural Women is a United Nations Women (UN Women) initiative that acknowledges the work of rural women, both paid and unpaid.


Celebrating Rural Women

The International Day for Rural Women is a United Nations Women (UN Women) initiative that acknowledges the work of rural women, both paid and unpaid.

Together rural women from all walks of life, all over the world, whether on the land or in the town, play a pivotal role in sustaining their rural communities. Sometimes under the most difficult circumstances yet always with a determination and resilience that often sends a message to never underestimate what a women can do.

Come along and join the conversation, enjoy some networking and celebrate together.

Panelists:

Barbara Carter: CWA member, former past president Goulburn Valley West CWA, Manager Plunkett Packing Shed for eight years, family background in sheep and cattle properties in Western Queensland.

Apsara Wimalasuriya: Senior Food Safety & Quality Systems Coordinator, SPC. Shepparton has also held managerial role at Unilever and Bega Cheese. Originally from Melbourne, Apsara moved to the Goulburn Valley with her husband and 2 kids in 2013.

Mary Macgill: Enjoys life on the farm with her family, her off farm employment is within the health industry as nurse and midwife. Mary migrated from Northern Ireland to Australia initially living in Sydney to later settle in the Shepparton area.

Sandra Vazzoler: Sandra’s passion is Food and Food Production. Sandra with her husband is owner/operator Longleat winery and café, cheesemaker and educator.

Jacque Phillips OAM: Chief Executive Officer at NCN Health since July 2019. Jacque led the voluntary amalgamation to create NCN Health and has built local, regional and state professional relationships to ensure small rural communities have access to local health care.

Margaret Hickey Author & Playwright from North East Victoria. Margaret has lived much of her life in small rural towns, her books attend to the experience of women in rural settings highlighting their strength and resilience.

Following the panel discussion there will be finger food available and the opportunity to mingle, network and celebrate!
