Sam Atukorala’s work with the Greater Shepparton community has been nominated for a Victorian Community Achievement Award. But he says everything he has achieved has been with the help of other community members. “There’s nothing in this world you can do by yourself,” Mr Atukorala said.
SOME 2,209 people from across the Shepparton area were reported to have accessed homelessness services during the reporting period of 2017 and 2018, as recorded by industry body, Council to Homeless Persons. This number included families with children, young people, older people, single adults, people with disabilities.
More than 200 people saw fellow citizens recognised for their community service at Shepparton’s Australia Day celebrations in the Queen’s Gardens on Saturday. Ethnic Council Strategic Engagement Coordinator Sam Atukorala was announced as the Greater Shepparton Citizen of the Year for his involvement in the community.
