Refugees deserve support and solidarity, not closed borders and pushbacks. That’s a reminder from UN Secretary General António Guterres on Tuesday’s World Refugee Day, regarding the international community’s duty to assist and protect refugees.
With forced displacement at a record high of 110 million people around the world, Mr. Guterres called for more solutions to resettle refugees and help them rebuild their lives. He also stressed the need for solidarity with host countries and communities.
The number of people forced to flee their homes reached a new peak last year, as COVID-19 failed to prevent conflict but made it to harder to find refuge.

Australian Refugee Action Network will host an Online Forum on World Refugee Day, Saturday June 20th at 12:55pm. In considering Australia’s welcome to Refugees, we should all explore the question: What type of society do you want, for yourself, for your family, for your community?
Shepparton Interfaith Network – in collaboration with the Ethnic Council of Shepparton and District – will conduct a Multifaith Service for World Refugee Day at St Brendan’s Church on Thursday 20 June at 6pm.
June 20 is World Refugee Day, a day the world commemorates the strength, courage, and perseverance of millions of refugees. Held every year, World Refugee Day also marks a key moment for the public to show support for families forced to flee.
