Candlelight vigil for fatal plane crash in Nepal

Candlelight Vigil, SheppartonShepparton’s Nepalese Community group held a candlelight vigil on Tuesday, January 31 in remembrance of loved ones lost in a fatal plane crash in Pokhara, Nepal.


Shepparton’s Nepalese Community group held a candlelight vigil on Tuesday, January 31 in remembrance of loved ones lost in a fatal plane crash in Pokhara, Nepal.

On the grounds behind Victoria Park Lake, more than 50 members and non-members of the Nepalese Community group gathered at 8pm to pay their respects to the 68 victims of the crash.

Nepalese Community president Gyan Lama said the fatal plane crash on Sunday, January 15 was the most disastrous in Nepal in the past three decades.

Condolences were also shared for Nepalese community members across Australia who had died suddenly due to health issues and accidents.

Nepalese Community vice-secretary Jyothi Bhandari said this was one of the most saddening times for their community.

“We gathered to light the candles and held one minute of quiet moment to pray for the deceased souls to rest in peace,” she said.

Nepalese Community secretary Bishal Jung Kunwar ended the program by thanking all the attendees of the event.
