The Salvation Army conducts a “Walking Home” – walk around Victoria Park Lake on Friday 11 August 2023 from 11:00am-1:00pm – to observe Homelessness Week 2023. The Theme of the week is “Together we can”. The Walk around the lake commences at SAM, and there is a free sausage sizzle afterwards. Many community organisations are participating, including Greater Shepparton Foundation.

That is the total number of people that identified as ‘homeless’ in Greater Shepparton on Census night in 2021.
Between the 2016 and the 2021 Census, the number of people homeless in our region grew by 18 per cent.
These figures were prior to the floods in October last year.
On Friday, August 11, from 11am to 1pm, community members are invited to collectively walk 418 laps of Shepparton’s Victoria Park Lake to raise awareness of the 418 people in our community experiencing homelessness.
Hosted by the Salvation Army in Shepparton “Walking Home” will empower our community to come together to end homelessness.
A part of this year’s Homeless Week — from August 7 to 13 — Walking Home draws attention to the importance of finding immediate solutions to the housing and homeless crisis.
