Intercultural Youth Advocacy Leaders program


The Ethnic Community Council Victoria Intercultural Youth Advocacy Leaders program is a pathway for young people from culturally diverse backgrounds to develop governance experience. Applications to join the program are open to young people aged 21 – 30. This program is made up of 12 young people aged 21 to 30 from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds selected for a period of 2 years.


The Intercultural Young Advocacy Leaders is a sub-committee of the Board of the Ethnic Communities’ Council of Victoria.

The Intercultural Young Advocacy Leaders sub-committee offers culturally diverse young people opportunities to develop advocacy and leadership skills within a co-designed framework, while providing the Ethnic Community Council Victoria with advice and input on matters affecting young people of CALD background in Victoria.

The sub-committee helps connect the Ethnic Community Council Victoria with culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) young people across Victoria, while developing future leadership pathways withina nd between the membership of the Ethnic Community Council Victoria.

This is a volunteer position.

From the Position Description:
Intercultural Young Advocacy Leaders (IYAL) is a sub-committee of the Board of the Ethnic Communities’ Council of Victoria (ECCV). The IYAL sub-committee is made up of 12 young people aged 21 to 30 from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds selected for 2 years. The IYAL offers culturally diverse young people opportunities to develop advocacy and leadership skills within a structured framework, while providing ECCV with advice and input on matters affecting young people of CALD background in Victoria. The sub-committee helps connect ECCV with CALD young people across Victoria, while developing future leadership pathways within and between the membership of the ECCV. The IYAL sub-committee is coordinated by a staff member of the ECCV and is convened by a Board delegate. IYAL sub-committee members work with the Convenor and Coordinator to develop a range of opportunities for other CALD young people through activities such as workshops, events and programs.
