Call for Volunteer Tutors

tutoring

The Volunteer Tutor Scheme is where members of the Goulburn Valley community are trained in teaching English to new arrivals and spend 1-2 hours with GOTAFE students out of class times to help them, particularly with their spoken English which many say they struggle with.

Volunteers wanted for Tutor Scheme

Assistance is needed for new settlement arrivals in Shepparton who are attending AMES and GOTAFE and learning English. A key element in learning English is the confidence afforded to learners by tutors.

GOTAFE and AMES are keen to build their students’ English capacity as soon as possible so they can quickly settle into Australian life.

Already we have 20 tutors and 50 students involved.

Volunteer tutors are required to provide 1-2 hours/week of English to students, either face-to-face or using zoom/phone.

Volunteers will be given 15 hours of training, and matched to one or a group of students.

A 5 week training program will be on Wednesdays – face to face from 9.30-12pm at GOTAFE Shepparton, or via zoom 6-8pm, commencing Wednesday 13th of July.
