In a special partnership between Human Chapters and Regional Victorians of Colour, we are engaging in conversations with community members about their experience of the recent floods in regional Victoria. Neha Samar and Arti Shah for participating in this conversation about the multicultural experience of the recent floods.
Chris Hazelman, manager of the Ethnic Council of Shepparton, said while the multicultural communities’ efforts to help out on the ground had been “fantastic”, these groups need to be included in the emergency management planning process. “At the moment, [they are] not a priority in the planning processes,” Mr Hazelman said. “There should be more of a focus on who is actually being impacted, and how we actually provide services to those people.”
Neha Samar has been appointed to the Victorian Multicultural Commission Regional Advisory Council as a Hume region representative and she is eager to hear from migrants, refugees and asylum seekers about the key issues affecting their communities.
