Amar is driving from Sydney to Darwin to engage culturally diverse communities with the Yes campaign

Australian of the Year Local Hero award winner Amar Singh says there’s been a “gap” in communicating the importance of the referendum to multicultural communities.

Amar Singh says it’s his responsibility as “a human being” to engage multicultural communities with the Yes campaign.

That’s why he’s begun a two-month 25,000 kilometre round-trip journey from Sydney to Darwin.

Mr Singh won the 2023 Australian of the Year Local Hero award for his work with his charity Turbans 4 Australia, a Sikh-led assistance organisation that delivers food and aid to vulnerable people across western Sydney.

Special guests are Minister for Indigenous Australians Linda Burney and Inclusion Consultant Tasneem Chopra (OAM) to learn more about the upcoming Voice referendum. We will also be joined by local MP Julian Hill, Member for Bruce, the Minister for Immigration, Citizenship and Multicultural Affairs Andrew Giles and the Minister for Home Affairs & Cyber Security Clare O’Neil.

NDIS CALD Strategy update

The development of the new NDIS CALD Strategy for 2023-27 is nearing completion. The Strategy aims to improve outcomes for people with disability from CALD backgrounds to access the NDIS.

It has been developed through a co-design process with people with disability from CALD backgrounds, their families, carers and the multicultural community sector, including Shepparton.

Once the new Strategy receives formal endorsement from external stakeholders in August, it will go through a translation and design process and be publicly released in November-December.
