On the night of Wednesday, March 8, Point of Difference Studio, now in Shepparton, held an information session for over 200 Pacific Island seasonal workers living in the Goulburn Valley.

Spilling in from Shepparton, Mooroopna, Ardmona, Tatura, Cobram and towns all over the region, seasonal workers gathered to hear Jodie New and Cherie Holland from Goulburn Valley Health talk about the importance of protecting themselves from Japanese encephalitis.

Shepparton Culture Kitchen ExperienceDrawing on their own stories, cultures, traditions and contemporary influences, the women including Ane Fotu, Ree Peric, Shakilla Naveed, Eman Alabbassi, Yusniza Yusoff, Leaisa Pele and Agoness Kuol, have collaborated with artist Jamie Lewis, to explore and exchange food cultures and to develop this special program of participatory cooking, eating, storytelling and food culture experiences at St Paul’s African House on 13 and 14 May.

Creative Voices in time of Coronavirus: Muticultural Arts Victoria

Multicultural Arts Victoria (MAV) has received a grant of $1 million to conduct new programs, one of which will be in Shepparton.

The two new programs, Duniya Behter and Ahead of the Curve, made possible with $1 million in funds from the Victorian Government’s recent Priority Response to Multicultural Communities During Coronavirus (COVID-19) Program, focus on building digital content skills, generating new community specific forms of transmission, and developing creative enterprise models. 

These programs will create significant employment opportunities and position young people, women and creatives from culturally diverse backgrounds living in Melbourne, Bendigo and Shepparton.

Anti-racism message in art

Anti-racism message in artUsing traditional Indigenous arts to break down cultural barriers and tackle racism in schools is the aim behind a new program due to start in Shepparton later this year. The new project Be Woke-Be Anti-Racist has been developed by the Mooroopna-based Point of Difference Studio using the skills and connections of newly appointed Indigenous community engagement co-ordinator and Yorta Yorta artist Tammy-Lee Atkinson.
