WomenCAN early years initiative being rolled out in SheppartonThe WomenCAN Early Years program is a collaboration between WomenCAN Australia, Greater Shepparton Foundation, Greater Shepparton City Council, The Bowden Marstan Foundation and GOTAFE. This program has the aim of training women through an earn-and-learn model to help boost the number of workers in the childcare sector.

Navigating Parenthood

Navigating ParenthoodMooroopna Children and Families Centre host the Greater Shepparton City Council, Best Start initiative of Navigating Parenthood. This takes place on each Wednesday during school term a guest speaker from a local organisation or service provides an information session on their programs with time for questions during or one on one after the session. Sessions run from 9.15am to 10.15, FREE, and children are welcome.

Councillor Geoff DobsonAs the guest of Board and Staff of the Ethnic Council of Shepparton and District, Councillor Geoff Dobson – former Mayor of City of Greater Shepparton and President of the Real Estate Institute of Victoria – was a Guest Speaker at the Annual General Meeting on September 29, 2022. Cr Dobson presented on the regional development of Shepparton from a number of perspectives relevant to the work of the Ethnic Council, particularly in the area of settlement and providing services to new settlement communities of Shepparton and the Goulburn Valley.

Shepparton Culture Kitchen ExperienceDrawing on their own stories, cultures, traditions and contemporary influences, the women including Ane Fotu, Ree Peric, Shakilla Naveed, Eman Alabbassi, Yusniza Yusoff, Leaisa Pele and Agoness Kuol, have collaborated with artist Jamie Lewis, to explore and exchange food cultures and to develop this special program of participatory cooking, eating, storytelling and food culture experiences at St Paul’s African House on 13 and 14 May.

Culturally appropriate food relief distributed in Shepparton

Boxes of thoughtfully chosen food items are being distributed to 50 households around Shepparton this week, as COVID-affected communities struggle to stock pantries with the essentials. The donation was supplied by Future Foundation for Kids, a Melbourne-based not-for-profit run by volunteers with Sri Lankan backgrounds.
