Victoria Police have raised concerns regards to people visiting the snow fields, there was a concern that some people are underprepared. Police have provided a media release for us to share amongst the community – so those wanting to attend the snow, have as much information prior to leaving.
This report presents the findings of a study undertaken by the Ethnic Council Shepparton and District on the issues impacting Shepparton’s Afghan community before and after the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic in Year 2020. The study was conducted via community consultation with 84 Afghan community members in Shepparton through several Focus Group Discussions and an online survey. The Volunteer Tutor Scheme is where members of the Goulburn Valley community are trained in teaching English to new arrivals and spend 1-2 hours with GOTAFE students out of class times to help them, particularly with their spoken English which many say they struggle with.
On 16 June, newly-sworn in Minister for Immigration, Citizenship, Migrant Services and Multicultural Affairs Andrew Giles gave his first speech at the Federation of Ethnic Communities Councils of Australia (FECCA) Conference currently underway in Melbourne. Led by artist and creator Aseel Tayah, Bukjeh at SAM will transport its audience on a journey through performances of music, dance, poetry and spoken-word depicting the stories of Bukjeh from the Shepparton community at Shepparton Art Museum on 18 June 2022.
Australia’s largest grower of asparagus and broccolini has been fined $60,000 for its role in engaging illegal workers. M&G Vizzarri Proprietary Limited, headed by Giuseppe Vizzarri, was convicted of breaching the Migration Act after pleading guilty to eight charges of allowing an unlawful non-citizen to work.
It faced one further charge of allowing a lawful non-citizen to work in breach of a work-related condition.
