EID CELEBRATION

Celebration was in the air as the Goulburn Valley Pakistani Association celebrated Eid Al-Fitr.

The end of Ramadan came with traditional dress, music, food and giving. Children enjoyed dressing up in bright colours, with craft activities available to decorate masks with jewels.

After celebrating separately last year through COVID19 lockdowns, Greater Shepparton City councillor Seema Abdullah said it was wonderful to be able to celebrate Eid together.

“Eid is all about sharing and caring โ€” sharing your happiness with everyone . . . to enjoy food and share with others,” she said.

Association vice-president Rabia Gill said Eid was “a gift for the month of fasting”.

“We wear traditional dress, eat food and just meet everybody . . . come together and celebrate amongst each other, but also be mindful of people who are not doing so well and contribute to them as well,โ€™โ€™ she said. Association president Muhammad Abdullah said it was difficult being unable to celebrate as a community last year.

“People have excitement, just to be together,” he said.
