The United Nations’ first International Migration Review Forum (IMRF) will be taking place from 17-20 May 2022. This conference, which will take place once every four years, is the primary global forum at which governments and all sectors of civil society meet to assess progress toward ensuring there are policies, procedures, and programmes that:
- Make migration a choice rather than a necessity
- Allow migration to happen in a safe, orderly, regular (legally documented and recognised) manne
- rSupport the objectives of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly, and Regular Migration
In 2018, Member States agreed to review the progress made at the local, national, regional and global levels in implementing the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration (GCM) in the framework of the United Nations through a State-led approach and with the participation of all relevant stakeholders.
The first International Migration Review Forum takes place in the General Assembly, New York, from May 17 to the 20th.
The Forum will be an opportunity to discuss the progress made in realizing each of the Compact’s 23 Objectives; and how the guiding principles have been integrated into our collective work to strengthen safe, orderly and regular migration.
