Intercultural Youth Advocacy Leaders program


The Ethnic Community Council Victoria Intercultural Youth Advocacy Leaders program is a pathway for young people from culturally diverse backgrounds to develop governance experience. Applications to join the program are open to young people aged 21 – 30. This program is made up of 12 young people aged 21 to 30 from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds selected for a period of 2 years.

On the 6th of February each year, the World Health Organisation and the United Nations observes International Day of Zero Tolerance Female Genital Mutilation or Cutting.

Zero tolerance to Female Genital Mutilation means the practice should not be tolerated for any reason, no matter the type, who is doing it and on whom.

Female Genital Mutilation which involves the removal of part, or all, of the female genitalia has been recognised as a serious form of violence against women and girls.

Victorian LGBTIQ+ Strategy

Victorian LGBTIQ+ Strategy

The Victorian Government has outlined a vision for LGBTIQ+ equality in Victoria for its first ever LGBTIQ+ Strategy, which will help drive equality for years to come.

The Government has also identified four key areas for potential change in policies, systems and services which can help fulfil this vision.

These foundations are based on consultations with more than 800 people and organisations about what the LGBTIQ+ Strategy should focus on and address.

Until 17 February 2021, Victorians are being invited to provide further feedback on whether these foundations reflect their own visions and ideas.

You might know Rani Alegre and Jobelle Collier as two of the friendly faces behind the Nanna Marce food truck – but come February, it won’t just be Shepparton talking about the father-daughter duo. They will be one of 14 teams to feature on season two of hit Network 10 show The Amazing Race Australia, with the Shepparton team in the running for the $250,000 prize.

January 26, 2021 – A Day of Conflicting Meanings

Yorta Yorta WokaShepparton’s first Survival Day Dawn Ceremony was heled on 26 January 2021, in Kaieltheban Park in Mooroopna. It was attended by about 30 people. Other survival day vigils and dawn ceremonies were held across the nation, encouraging reflections and conversations about how we mark January 20 each year. The Ethnic Council of Shepparton and District supports Reconciliation, Treaty, the Makarrata – the Statement from the Heart and all efforts to understand and integrate with the all indigenous peoples of the Goulburn Valley.
