Children’s vaccinations ready to roll at McIntosh Centre

The first doses of coronavirus vaccines will be given to children aged five to 11 from Wednesday at a redecorated Goulburn Valley Health vaccination hub at Shepparton’s McIntosh Centre.

Now with animal cut-outs, cartoon wallpaper and hopscotch on the floor, the entry and vaccination pods are looking more child-friendly and welcoming.

A low-sensory room with a dimmable light and more comfortable couch has also been set up for children with ADHD or autism or those who need a quieter space.

As Australia moves towards more of a DIY COVID world, multicultural leaders fear the new expected independence is leaving their communities without the extra support they need.

Recent changes to quarantine and isolation rules in Victoria have created a greater reliance on rapid antigen tests (RAT).

However, with English-only instructions included in the tests, culturally and linguistically diverse communities (CALD) are left confused and without access to the same protections against the virus. The government is being urged to create universally usable pictograms with test instructions.

SBS to launch multilingual news channel

SBS will launch a new free-to-air TV multilingual news channel in 2022 that will include two new SBS-produced prime time TV news bulletins in Arabic and Mandarin.

The new channel will also feature an extensive line-up of bulletins from leading international broadcasters in more than 30 languages.

The new 30-minute Arabic and Mandarin language news programs will be produced locally by SBS and broadcast during prime time every weeknight.

Goulburn Valley Health’s Respiratory Clinic on Graham St will be open from 8am to 4pm daily. The Shepparton Showgrounds site is open from 8.45am to 4.45pm, closing from January 1 to 3.
