For Refugee Week, Wise Women Well in collaboration with the Ethnic Council will hold a Multicultural Women’s Health Expo at St Paul’s African House on Wednesday 29 June from 10:00-2:30pm. Childcare and Lunch will be provided for all attending. Many local agencies will be participating in this event. Language help is available for Arabic along with Sudanese, Syrian, Hazaragi, Dari, Farsi, Dinka, Arabic, Swahili, Gikuyu, Sinhala, Kirundi, Tagalog.
This report presents the findings of a study undertaken by the Ethnic Council Shepparton and District on the issues impacting Shepparton’s Afghan community before and after the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic in Year 2020. The study was conducted via community consultation with 84 Afghan community members in Shepparton through several Focus Group Discussions and an online survey. Refugee Week is from Sunday, June 19 to Saturday, June 25. During Refugee Week, the Ethnic Council of Shepparton and GOTAFE – the local TAFE education provider – will host several activities directly addressing the Refugee experience.
Shepparton Ethnic Council welcomes the community to participate in a day of discovery of Shepparton’s unique Multicultural communities on Monday 20th of June 2022. There will be visits to places of cultural interest in Mooroopna and Shepparton. Seats are limited – interested people should register early.
Refugee Week is Australia’s peak annual activity to inform the public about refugees and celebrate positive contributions made by refugees to Australian society. In observance of Refugee Week 2022, the Ethnic Council – collaboration with GOTAFE – will host Thon’s Long Walk from Sudan to Shepparton at the Harder Auditorium on Wednesday 22 June at 10:00 am.
The Women’s Collective – by the Victorian Women’s Trust, the Ethnic Council of Shepparton and District and Matters that Count will conduct a community forum – in particular to invigilate the candidates on women’s issues and multicultural communities.
Ethnic Council of Shepparton and District are offering a free course for anyone seeking Australian Citizenship. The course is centred around a study of the questions contained in the test. The course is free and commences on Wednesday, 11 May 2022. This is an English Medium course. Interpreters will be in attendance.
